Women ovulate at different times, sperm can actually live several days, the egg takes several days to travel down your Fallopian tube.. so if you ovulate a couple days before your period starts .. you can be PG and still have a period as the fertilized egg hasn't implanted yet. Many women do not ovulate around day 14 so use birth control not the rhythm method

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO> these other answewrs are so WRONG because they don't understand exactly how a cycle works!!!! They think they know...but they are WRONG!!! Everyone's cycle is different. There is a myth that woman ovulate 14 days after their period begins...but that is only an AVERAGE and each month can be different. The other thing is that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days.... so if you are having a shortened cycle one month and you have sex right after your period and you ovulate earlier than day 14 than yes, there is a chance of getting pregnant. However, it will not be during your period. Many people think it’s possible because they do not completely understand how conception works. It might not happen right at the moment of intercourse since the sperm can live for days! If your cycle is short and you ovulate earlier than day 14 it can SEEM like conception takes place during your period...They only way to know is to know exactly when you ovulate. There are several ways to know and some are more effective than others. Some can only predict before ovulation happens and some can only predict that is has already happened. The absolute best info I can give you is to go read a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! . It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths! Even if you don't get into charting and everything....it will help you in so many ways!

Sperm live inside for a few days, so you can get pregnant if you ovulate shortly after your period. If your cycle is shorter than 28 days, you are even more likely to get pregnant while you have your period.

Cause you just can. I got pregnant on the 3rd day of my period but miscarried at 5 weeks so if your not wanting to get pregnant don't have sex without birth control.

Not all women ovulate at the standard 14days after their last menstrual cycle. Some ovulate during, some ovulate real late in their cycle so the are still menstruating when the egg becomes fertilized.
Not everyone is like clockwork and fits the "standard model."

2 reasons why.... 1) you & 2) him.... your body sometimes releases 2 eggs during one period - although your period begins with one egg released another could be close behind leaving the possiblity of pregnancy... and him.... you may have sex today but his sperm can hang around for some 5 days afterwards... another chance to become pregnant...

don't know that much about that part of science but i have heard of that before. but i do know the waste from the unfertlized egg is in the blood so maybe once it starts the egg is still there and can get fertilized then
