Richard M. Nixon 1969-1974 and Ronald W. Reagan 1981-1989.
Nixon ran for President in 1960, lost, returned to CA, ran for Governor in 1964, lost, then ran for President again in 1968. Reagan was CA governor from 1967 through 1975, then he ran for President in 1980 and won. Both were Republicans.

I think Richard Nixon was from CA. Whittier I believe.
Although Ronald Reagan was governer and lived in California at his ranch in Santa Barbara, he was not a native Californian. The Reagan Presidential Library is also in SoCal, located in Simi Valley.

Nixon and Reagan. Reagan had been Governor there before president, and even took his governor's chair to the white house.
