Every firewall is gonna ask you for permission innumerable number of times if you have not set to remember for each and every program that connects to the internet. It is easy if you start doing it for all the program when it connects to the internet and prompts you for that. Atleast you will have to set it for once for any of the firewall. You can try some of the free firewall. Jetico, Comodo, Tiny firewall, Sygate. I'm using sygate, but i would recommened Jetico or Comodo coz i recently read that both of them scored good rank under different testing conditions and stood far better than those paid commercial firewalls.

Zone Alarm is about as simple as a firewall as you can get, other then Windows built-in firewall.
But the Windows firewall is really only half a firewall as it only filters incoming packets.
The answering "permissions" is the price we pay for internet security these days.
Which would you rather have: to answer a few firewall alerts, OR, have your identity, personal information, financial information (including credit card numbers) stolen.
I know my choice would be to answer a few alerts . Hey , in time the alerts will get less and less as your firewall gets "trained".
It's a small temporary inconvenience in order to insure integrity of your data and personal information.

You might look at grisoft.com's AVG Free. I've had a paid version of Zone Alarm Security Suite for more than 6 months, but last month it stopped downloading updated virus definitions, and the company doesn't seem too interested in fixing it. Now I'd just like to get my money back.

You are going to get lots of alerts with any firewall when you install something different. It has to learn the programs. Comodo has a good one. Try it.

I am pretty sure during the download process it will detect you have another firewall installed and un-install it before installing itself.
