Guinea Pigs are vegetarians. Don't buy them burgers they'll just waste them. Fresh scraps from the kitchen are fine as are grass (not lawn clippings), dandelions, and clover. They will also like celery, cucumber, sweetcorn (maize), capsicum pepper, carrots and fruit. Because the piggies like to shove things in their mouth pockets, things like bread and rice and cheese are not good, since they are soft and hard to get back out again, and pieces left back there can be harmful. If you don't want to buy store treats, read the back of the package and see what is in them, ie. fruits, veggies, etc. Also look online for some websites that will help you with diet. here are some-

I wouldn't trust everything you see online or in books. Instead of even getting them treats from pet stores. Why not cut up TINY pieces of watermelon, too much sugar for them is not good and most fruits are filled with them, and give that as a treat. A few people suggested lettuce and spinach which are absolute NO NO's. A little romaine lettcue (and when I mean a little I mean once a week or every other week) is ok. Any other lettuce is not especially ice burg.

the special treats are always going to be the best choice for your pet just because it specializes in that particular pet. but you can feed your guinea pigs lettuce from your refrigerator but remember when you feed your guinea pig some people food it should be a gradual change and not a whole lot at one time in the beginning...good luck

Now a days they get a extra numerous foodstuff plan of hay, pellets, vegetables and the occasional fruit yet nonetheless dairy, nuts and meat are on the no-no checklist. at the same time as your guinea pig will in all probability consume the cheese their little structures locate it tricky to deal with so which you're extra suitable of with vegetables. good good fortune!! 2 females Lily - 17wks - tortoise shell and white Buttercup - 19wks - cream

I have always had Guinea Pigs and I will feed them carrots, lettuce, and apples. Not cheese and rice. They need fresh veggies and fruits. My Guinea Pigs have lived to be eight years old and that is accient for them. Try to buy them the vitamin C drops it is essential for a long life for them along with the fresh fruits and veggies.

Generally, guinea pigs like fruits and veggies, not regular people food. Guinea pigs are one of the three mamals that absolutely need vitamin C (monkeys and humans being the other two). Pieces of apples, orange, banana, guava, pappya, grapefruit, strawberry, whole grapes, kiwi, etc. will make a tasty treat for them. Veggies like carrots, corn, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach, olives, mushroom, peppers, tomatoe (I know it's a fruit, but whatever), brussell sprouts, green beans, etc are things that they also like.
Good luck, guinea pig chef! =D

Probably not cheese. Bread and rice stuff i think would be fine. Just not too much. Veggies are what they love. fruits and veggies. You can just put a little fence thing around them and set them in your yard and let them eat grass and clover if you like. They love stuff like that.
