What is really wrong with polygomy? Gay marriages are becoming legal in allot of states so why can't 3 or more people get together and form a union. It's getting harder and harder for a married couple to get buy even with two incomes and the children are left home alone or with day care. So why not allow people to have more then one wife or more then one husband. This would allow for more people to take care of the children and the potential for three or more incomes. Isn't this supposed to be a free country?

I have seen a few people talk about God and morals. Many religious leaders have had more then one wife. Moses had many wives. I am not talking about adultry, which I agree is wrong. I am also not talking about forcing people to do something against their will which is also wrong. I am talking about 3 or more people getting together and forming a marriage/union. I love this country and I am a proud veteran. I just wish the goverment would get off their high horse and stop trying to control peoples lives.

Polygamy is illegal because of the country's religious traditions. In the specific denominations that colonized the US, polygamy was frowned upon. There is no moral foundation for it -- it's no more of a moral issue than the Catholics' belief that infants should be baptized vs. the Baptists' belief that it's the individual's decision when to be baptized, rather than the parents'. Now, if the majority of denominations had believed the same thing about baptism, that would probably be a law now too. The fact of the matter is that polygamy was a common practice in biblical times, sanctioned by God. So, if you're looking for a logical explanation, you won't find one.

For as free as our country is, everything has it's price honey. This may sound logical to you and to many others who seem to practice this, but realistically it's tragedy waiting to happen. If things don't work out, you have to consider division of property between three people, and then, God forbid, what if children were brought into this lifestyle? Who's mommy? WHo's Daddy? and how come their family is so different than all their friends? Those are the questions you are going to have to deal with. If that's not bad enough, then comes the scrutiny of society. We, as a whole, are not ready to process any of this mentally. In our minds, it's a step away from a "jerry springer" show. It's how it's portrayed through media honey. I wish I would have had a better answer for you, but I'm answering honestly and this is truly how many of us think.

This might be a free country, but it's still founded under GOD and that will never change. If you don't like it, then move to the middle east where that practice is common. They call those orgies and they should be illegal. Nothing good comes from polygamy. There is always a wife who is jealous. By the way, "free" only means that you have the freedom to live where you want, school where you want, and pick the job of your choice. Don't think that it's free for you to do what you wish. You could always convert to being a muslim. Thank you and good luck.

It is a free country. It is a free country based on morals and beliefs. One nation under God is part of our pledge. Our country was established with God in mind. The bible clearly states that adultry is wrong. We can't make this legal because it is wrong. Everyone now is more worried about what is politicaly correct when their focus should be on what is right.

Probably because when polygamy is ignored, you get people like that guy Jeffs from Utah who married underage girls. That's abuse, brother.
