AS OF 17:15 CST the White house has not released msg traffic indicating exactly the Gov. offices to be closed.

G. W. BUSH has stated "In further expression of our national grief, I will appoint in a subsequent proclamation a National Day of Mourning throughout the United States when the American people may assemble in their respective places of worship, there to pay homage to the memory of President Ford. "

....sometimes this means all state, county and military and gov. offices will be closed... banks will not due to the 3 day rule.

Also...In accordance with Dep. of Def. Directive 1005.6 The flag of the United States shall be flown at "half-staff" (....get it right people....) beginning immediately until 25 Dec 2007 in honor and tribute to the memory of G.R. Ford. On all department of defence buildings, grounds and naval vessels throught the united states and abroad.

Now... if you want to ref. 9/11 Day of Mourning GW had this to say... I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Friday, September 14, 2001, as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001. I ask that the people of the United States and places of worship mark this National Day of Prayer and Remembrance with noontime memorial services, the ringing of bells at that hour, and evening candlelight remembrance vigils. I encourage employers to permit their workers time off during the lunch hour to attend the noontime services to pray for our land. I invite the people of the world who share our grief to join us in these solemn observances.

Here he states "I encourage employers to permit their workers time off"... diffrent than "American people may assemble in their respective places of worship, there to pay homage to the memory of President Ford"

We'll just have to wait and see. Most likly by Friday we'll know if you have Monday off.

Federal and State offices usually close once the official Day of Mourning is set. This is always declared by the current president and usually corresponds with the official funeral. Once the president makes it official, announcements are made to the offices that are closed. I work in a federal office and we have not received official word yet, but briefly heard on the news this morning that the Day of Mourning will be Tuesday.

Federal offices, courts and the post office will be closed. As for the banks, I think it depends on the day chosen. I seem to recall a federal law that prevents banks from closing more than 3 consecutive days and with the Monday holiday they may not be allowed to close if the day of mourning is Tuesday 1/2/07.

Its not a Federal law that keeps the markets open. Its more of an unwritten rule that the stock market will not be closed for more than 3 days in a row. But it is not steadfast, but the last time it was broken was for Sept 11th
