i've always thought of Philadelphia as a smaller Hug-able NYC.

It depends on what about NYC you would like to have without the size, a lot of NYC IS the size.. there is always something to do, alwayus a new restauraunt.. etc. but in terms of feel/attitude/style/look/politics... philly, also Boston. And Philly is only 1.5 hours from NYC so you can go there (even just for dinner) if you want to. )

Southern cities and most western cities (san-fran not included) are driving cities, they will inherently lack the day to day personality and culture that you encounter when you get out of your car and take the subway, or walk. Chicago is similar in ways but it is quite large.

Philly is often called the 6th borough... because of location and because it is very similar in many ways... but way smaller and more managable.

Chicago is a great city, but not like New York..

I live in Philadelphia and it is nick named little New York..

I like to party in New York, but Philly always has it going on..

So Philadelphia would be a great place to come for New years....

Have fun and be safe

San Franciso, CA or Washington, DC - both have good restaurants like NYC - less expensive and not as big. Of course, there is only one NYC..
Also, if you can stand the cold, Chicago is a great city.

I think California is a great state. I mean theres plenty of diversity, entertainment, and shopping out here like the big apple but it isn't as crowded as NY. Also the weather here is great and you don't have to worry about it snowing like crazy here or anything. Plus if you go to hollywood you're bound to bump into a star now and again.

Washington D.C...there's so much, but it's not huge! And a lot of stuff there is free, like the museums. I travelled by myself and had no problem navagating the city at all. If you get lost, you will stumble onto something!
