Stick to neutral colors for your pants; such as black, navy, brown, beige and grey, as they go well with other colors. For shirts, you can go with lighter or brighter colors. If you wear dark pants, contrast with lighter shirts. If the pants are lighter, go with darker colors on top. Don't mix patterns together, such as plaids and stripes. Your belts and shoes don't have to necessarily match, but should be in the same color range, such as tan belt, and brown shoes, or black shoes with grey belt. You can also dress monochromatically, meaning all one color, but that is very hard to match exactly. You can wear black shoes with black pants, and do the same with browns. Your girlfriend can be a good source of information for you, since girls usually have more of a good eye for colors and what goes together. Take her advice, and you won't go wrong. Good luck!

Definitely go with a black belt and black shoes. I know on tv and some people say that brown goes with black -i think it look ridiculous! But jazz up the outfit- get a black belt with rhinestones on it or one with colored rhinestones and stripes. Add another bright color in accessories like a red beaded necklace= HOT!

Wear it with a black belt and shoes. In general the belt should match the top. Gives your bottom a contrasting colour
