angels and demons cus it keeps me guessing (by the by, read that before da vinci code or you kinda get a clue as to how to work out his plot line and it kills the suspense).
The Alchemist was nice, simple and airy, but for kids who want action way boring. I personally found the blunt moral being shoved in your face a little annoying, but i loved the muslim glass maker. i forget what his saying was tho... it's like... "it was told" or summat like that

Angels and Demons because it's very thrilling and controversial at the same time since it mentions the vatican.
I also like anything by Mitch Albom: Tuesdays with Morrie, 5 People you meet in Heaven, For one more day;
Frank McCourt: Angela's Ashes, 'Tis, Teacher man,
Dave Pelzer: A Child called 'It', The Lost Boy, A Man named Dave, The Privilege of Youth, Help yourself;
Sue Townsend: "The Adrian Mole series" (6 titles so far)

I work at a bookstore, and have read most of the books on your list. There is no clear cut answer to your question. The wide selection of books in different genres leaves it open to interpretation, and even to mood. If I'm in the mood for a good thrilling book, I'll pick any of Dan Brown's books. But if I'm in the mood for dragons and such, it would be Eragon. It all depends on the mood. But great choice in books!

These are all quite different... My favorite of them was Memoirs of a Geisha...I thought it fully transported the reader into another world.
My favorite book (recently) is The Time Travelers Wife...it is phenomenal.

(of course i read more than all this, i'm just saying the books i was interested in.)

I don't like any of your selections.
I like hard-boiled American writers like Raymond Chandler,
