Two things wrong with your statement. First, there are MORE women alive today than at any time in history, so there WILL be more lesbians than any time in history. Second, you have to realize the mores (morals) of society that they grew up in, and today we are more free than ever before to say who we are. Thus, more women are FREE TO ADMIT what they like and who they like WITHOUT putting their very lives at risk.
So, to answer your question, YES! : )

Lesbian sex has been common throughout human history.
You just hear about it more often now, since there is less societal pressure to keep it quiet :)
But it's always been around...

Nah, probably the same across the board straight/Gay/whatever else people do. But becasue more People are talking about it and putting it out there for all to see it seems overwhelming.
