I had a speech about a week ago in one of my classes. Our proffesor said to look at the history of the holiday and the history of African Americans in this country and then decide on our answer. Just wanted to know what you guys thought.

If someone wants to celebrate it then I think they should.

I think of Thanksgiving as a time for people to truly reflect on the many blessings bestowed upon us from God.

I really don't get into the whole pilgrims, Native American thought process when it comes to Thanksgiving. I just look at the many blessings God has given to me and there's never a reason to not celebrate God's gifts to us.

If the actual reason for Thanksgiving offends you, make your own tradition for celebrating the holiday that's not focused on the pilgrims/Indians or whatever.

There is no correlation between African Americans and the Thanksgiving holiday.

I believe that no one should do more than consider it turkey day and have an excuse to get off work and visit family.

The basis for the Thanksgiving holiday is hypocritical at best. I am sure the original celebrants were genuine because the whites survived solely due to the genreosity of the Natives. After that...well, just a bit different!

Wah, wah, wah!!! Thanksgiving is a national U.S. holiday. If you are an American citizen, then you should celebrate Thanksgiving in whatever fashion that you choose.

And let's get another thing straight: African-americans are african people who immigrated here by choice and eventually became American citizens by applying for citizenship. Black folks are natural American citzens, who incidentally are the decendants of slaves and who had no choice about coming here. We are AMERICANS, just like the AMERICANS of all the other colors, flavors and textures. American black people helped build this country with our own hands, so we better damned well celebrate f*cking Thanksgiving.

That's what I think....

Let the power of my enchanted ring enlighten you...THE COSMOS IS FULL OF WONDER AND AWE. MOST AMERICANS CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING PART IN THEIR OWN WAY AND THE OTHER WAY HAVING BEEN PASSED DOWN AND MANIPULATED BY SPECIAL INTERESTS IN THE U.S. GOVERNMENT. THE FIRST THANKSGIVING CELEBRATED BY THE PILGRIMS IS NOT THE NOBLE AND ROMANTICIZED VERSION MOST OF US HAVE COME TO KNOW. HISTORY IS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS HIS-STORY. EVEN THOUGH OUR THANKSGIVING PAST MAY REFLECTS STRONG DIFFERENCES OF OPINION, IT IS HOW WE MOVE FORWARD WITH KNOWLEDGE AND INSIGHT WE HAVE THAT WILL DEFINE THANKSGIVING FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. IF YOU WERE TO ASK THOSE ON THE SMALL REMAINING INDIAN RESERVATIONS, DO YOU CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING, WHAT WOULD YOU THINK THEIR ANSWER WOULD BE?
In brightest day, in darkest night
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might
Beware my power, GL Supreme's light!

Well, I'm Native America - and if anyone shouldn't have to celebrate it - that'd be me. But I still do. I try not to look at it like the begining of the butchering and persecution of my ancestors, but a day that I get to get together with my family and enjoy their company while putting on a good 5 pounds. How can people move on with their future if they're still dwelling on their past??

Anybody who lives in America and enjoys her freedoms should celebrate thanksgiving. It's not race or gender Biased, its just a small way to celebrate the country we live in.

I personally only celebrate Thanksgiving, New Year's eve and birthdays.

I think that Black people should celebrate Thanksgiving because of the spirit of the holiday. It is a day to reflect and give thanks. That has no bearing on our history in this country.

Now if you want to skip INDEPENDENCE DAY that's another story....

Anyone that wants to celebrate Thanksgiving should do so. Is there a color barrier for celebrating Thanksgiving? Tell your teacher he's an idiot and should try to poison the minds of students.

If you believe in God, and have something to thank him, Thanksgiving is a good excuse.
