What is more likely, Zito putting on the pinstripes, Clemens getting restriped or Yankees give Philip Hughes or Humberto Sanchez a chance at a rotation spot?

Sanchez getting a chance to start. Clemens is a has been and Zito is going elsewhere. Hughes may also get a chance to break into the starting rotation, but I think Sanchez has the better chance at it at first.

Chow!!

Now that Zito is off the table we can talk about what the Yankees will actually do. I think they will trade Johnson for young arms that will be ready for the bigs next year. The Yankees are playing it so smart, they are trimming payroll, getting younger and stock piling their much depleted minor league system. Once they trade Johnson they won't do anything else to the starting staff. I could see they adding another reliever, but that's it. It looks like they will end up with old Doug M at first base, but I would rather them trade with Atlanta for Adam La Roche. As far as Hughes and Sanchez, there is no reason to put them in the rotation this year. They will bring back Clemens at the all star break and life will be good. Then next year bring on the young arms...

The feel that I am getting for this is ... IF the talks with the D'backs are completed by weeks end, then Zito is on the radar screen. And they will court him and probably sign him. The Yankees, for some strange reason, are crying poor after the 26 million dollar luxury tax they paid, maybe not poor but playing it "thrifty" but is that a deterrant to other teams for them to let their guard down? The Yankees have been quite, too quite, uncharacteristic for the Yankees. I think they want Zito, why wouldn't they? But they need to unload Johnson first, and again if they do by weeks end, then well....if I'm wrong, I'll eat crow.

If they trade Unit then it all comes down to how much the Muts want Zito. I don't think that Cashman is going to play into Boras hands by getting into a bidding war. That being said I think the Yankees will have a great opportunity to showcase some excellent young talent like Hughes or Sanchez or Karsten.

Right now it is all speculation, but if the do trade RJ they will make Zito an offer but they are not looking to over spend. I know you say "Aren't these the Yankees?" king of the payroll? well Cash is moving the Yankees to a new direction. they will still spend money, however they are looking to get younger, deeper, and cheaper. But it is any ones guess as to what Cash has in mind.

The whole idea of trading RJ is so the Yanks can sign Zito. That is why he hasn't signed with the Mets or any other team. He is waiting on the Yanks because that is where he wants to play. Believe it because it is so. The Old Hippie has a friend in the Yanks front office. WHOOPS!! I didn't see that coming. His signing with San Fran. Not the first time I have been wrong. I just need better **** to smoke LOL

It doesnt matter. Any of them would do better than johnson. he is all washed up. I think it depend on if clemens is available though. I dont know if zito is a good move. he might choke in NY. And to sign him long term, without knowing that. I wouldnt take a chance on that. To many others that did well other places could not play in NY. Zito might be one of them.

I think that if the Yankees unload Johnson and Arizona is stupid enough to take a spent guy then anything could happen.

it just means the mets will overpay (like the cubs did with soriano) to make sure they get zito instead of the yankees.

I don't think Johnson is going anywhere. Arizona won't give up the prospects The Yanks want in order to get him back.
