By other black men for it, I don't understand. I mean I don't hear anyone calling Jimi Hendrix a sell-out for playing rock music.

Really?

- Jimi Hendrix

- Chuck Berry, an black man invented rock and roll guitar, tell them you are listening to his tradition.

- Prince is a pretty good guitar player, is Prince a sellout? Ask them to listen to his guitar solo on "Let's Go Crazy"

- What about Living Color? An all black band that did some great metal rock and roll.

So does that mean Chralie Pride isn't allowed to sing Country? Does that mean that Eminem isn't allowed to do rap? I thought his movie 8 mile was all about breaking color barriers.
Does that mean the Beastie Boys who are Jewish white boys not allowed to do rap? They helped pioneer the genre in the 1980's.

Ask your accuser if it is ok for people to label and stereotype them? Ask them if they have ever thought outside the box.

Tell them they are absolutely right. If that is the case, the Blues Brothers, and the Blues Brothers movie should have never been made or performed. Only Affrican-Americans should perform it. So I guess that music genre is going to die out, because lately, white artists are the ones trying to keep it alive and going.

Those guys are fools. Black people virtually created Rock music. Chuck Berry would have been known as "The King" if he were white. Elvis developed his style by mimicing some of the black artists he grew up listening to in Tennessee. That's one of many reasons that some white parents tried to forbid their kids from listening to his music.

As Rock has evolved, it 's been influenced by all types of world music. Don't listen to those dopes. Stay true to yourself and Rock On!

dude thats kick ***, anyways the people who call you a sell out have sold out this abomination of music called rap it is not music and they shouldn't be calling you this until they understand the concept of music, not mumbling crap
anyways some of the most important people in rock n roll are black like jimi hendrix and chuck berry. without them music woulsn't be what it is today

I'm curious first and foremost, why then, is your avatar a white guy? OK, back on topic...who cares what other people think of your music? I'm a white girl who listens to any and everything, why not be a black man that does the same? Music is music and if you have any talent or respect for it; you will enjoy a wide variety of genres. Tell them that; tell them they must not have a musical ear enough to appreciate rock. Honestly, you got 1-up on them! :)

Just remind your friends that there are black men in heavy metal. Check out God Forbid. Sepultura also has a black singer. Don't forget about Sevendust and Living Colour. It's not about color, it's about what you like. That term "sell-out" is so over used and misused, it's ridiculous. As long as you're true to yourself, then tha's all that matters.

It seems like I remember reading that more rap music is purchased by white people than by black people...

The men who are making those claims are fools that want to make you like what they like. Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry, and Vernon Reid sold out? I don't think so.

People are just ignorant. Why does the color of your skin matter when you decide what to listen to? It's all about what music speaks to you and you identify with. And if heavy metal is what gets you going, then rock out! Don't listen to haters...

Well, all I can say is that Eminem made quite a career out of rap music...and how many white guys do you see driving around with the bass turned waaay up listening to so-called "black music"?

My advice: just be yourself...you're only a sellout if you do what you really don't agree with...so keep listening to the music YOU like!!!

That's there problem.I know exactly how you feel. Been there done that. They are closed minded. Did anybody call Jay-Z a sell out when he collaborated with Linkin park. I don't think so.They went out and bought the CD. What ever genre of music speaks to you is for you and it doesn't mean your a sell-out to others.

**** them. Anyone who writes off an entire genre (or several) of music is missing out.

I'm white, and I like some rap - Jurassic 5, and Tribe Called Quest are ******* awesome (more hip-hop than rap) but old Ice Cube, NWA, Snoop Dogg, etc. are great too.

Anyone that gives you **** for what kind of music you like needs to get a life.
