This equation has no solution.
5 - x = - x
add x to both side
5 - x + x = -x + x
5 = 0
0 cannot be equal to 5.

5 - x = -x
Your first step would be to attempt to group the x terms together. Let's add x to both sides.
5 = 0
At this point, you might be thinking to yourself, HUH?! The variable disappeared. Every time you're solving an equation and the variable disappears, look at what is left behind, and ask yourself if the statement is true or false.
If the answer is false, your answer for x is "no solution".
If the answer is true, your answer for x is "all real numbers" (there would then be infinitely many solutions). In this case, your answer to the equation would be "no solution".
Consider the following example below.
x + 3 = x + 3
It follows that, subtracting x both sides
3 = 3
The answer to your question when asking to solve for the question would then be "x is all real numbers."
The same holds true for inequalities. Say you have
5 - x > -x
Then you would have
5 > 0
And you would ask yourself, "is this true or false", and then answer accordingly (this is true, so the solution for x would be all real numbers).
Hope that helped.

that equation is messed up with no answer. just try to isolate x. 5-x=-x. if you add x on both sides the x cancels out making it 0. so 5=0 which is impossible so no answer

Add x from both sides:
0x=5
No solution!
Check:
5-0=-(0)
5≠0

5-x = -x
5=0 (add x)
5 can't be equal to 0, therefore there is no solution.
