Since a louf is used to wash your body and is soaked in water often, only keep it around for a max of three months. Just like your toothbrush, germs and mold may grow on there if not tended to properly...

Choose a wash rag over a louf. Loufs hold water inside of them and it's like (as the first person said) a breeding ground for bacteria.

well i normally change mine every other month or so or until it is all stretched out and worn. I normally go to the dollar store in my area and buy a few of them and always keep them handy in case i have a guest over so they get their own also in case something happens to mine such as mold which has happened in the past so i can just chuck it in the trash. And where they are so inexpensive I don't waste time trying to clean it and make sure it is safe to clean my body with. I just replace it

Wash it in bleach to kill all of the bacteria. Let it dry completely then soak it for a couple of hours, then rinse it well. It should be good until it falls apart. Do this every couple of months to prevent trouble.

I would never keep one longer than six months. They are a breeding ground for bacteria.
