Basically, my friend has just met her distant cousins who are actually Nigerian, he didn't know that he had Nigerian decent before, but now he has found out he is 1/8 Nigerian. What would you do in that situation? He is really devastated, i feel so sorry for him.

What does it matter? Its a race just like any other, doesnt make her any different of a person. What is there to be devastated about???I think it is quite shallow of her to be devastated. And why do you feel sorry for him,hes the same person he has always been, nothing changes at all!!!
I think she should be pleased that she has met family that she has never met before.

Oh and y the way im not Nigerian but I honestly think that this person has to be the most shallow person in the world and you are even shallower for feeling sorry for someone because they are 1/8 Nigerian, like there is something wrong with that!!

Sounds like your friend was racist against Nigerians or blacks and suddenly discovered that they had african blood LOL!!!

And by saying you fel sorry for her,you sound racist yourself, you really make yourself look bad!

The problem lies... where? Your mate should perhaps look at himself and his own prejudices, and perhaps you should too, if you both think this is such a terrible thing to discover.

Let's get this in perspective, shall we? We all originate from the 'cradle of civilisation' anyway, so technically, it doesn't matter a jot.

Question: What's the fuss about?
Answer: there isn't one, if you are a rational human being. I don't possess exceptional common sense, but I'm not daft enough to be ''devastated'' over something that is not a big deal in the first place!

On a related point, I feel the same irritation with fools who bang on about being "100% English". To the sad miscreants who find it hard to understand the concept of descent: if everyone went back to where they came from, the population of Britain would be reduced to... nil. How many pure Anglo-Saxons do you think are left in the UK? Oh, that's right - NONE. Plus, even the Anglo-Saxons weren't 100% British: Saxony is Germany!

But why? What is his problem, in which case it may well be just that.

He should celebrate his inhereted genes! Viva la difference! Think of all his descendants what richness of genes, characters etc., They all went into making him what and who he is.

Who is a genuine PEDIGREE these days? We all have several cultures deep within our Genes, who fascinating to investigate. What stories he could gleen. History is past, what is done is done.

Tell him to get a grip and make his descendants proud of him!

sadly nigerians are not getting good press at the moment, and this will probably go on until the nation sorts its issues out. However there are good and bad in every nation and its up to your friend to make sure she does not live up to the negative press that they get, but lets be honest 1 8th hardly anything to worry about is it, even 100% nigerian she should make her own mark not live by the negativity surrounding nigerians at the moment, each one to their own, whatever creed or colour. if we all belive in the bible we all go back to adam anyway lol

well, being black it wouldn't be much of a problem for me. But if i belonged to another culture (esp one who felt 1 drop of blackness made me black, and caused me to start doubting my identity and stuff) I'd prob act differently, but i don't know. devastated? did he find out someone he thought was family really wasn't? That's the only thing i can imagine.

It wouldn't be a problem for me. It would be interesting to find out about another heritage I did not know existed and think of discovering you have more family, great!
