I have an Emachines desktop currently with a 3
button wheel mouse. Friend gave me a Dell 3 button optical USB. Can I just unplug the old and
plug in the new? Turn off computer? Install with the wizard? Are they even compatible?

You should be able to just unplug the old one and plug in the new one. You MIGHT need to reboot...if you can, do it anyway.

Most likely you can just plug in the Dell and away you go. Shouldn't even need an installer - just plug and play.

All you will need to do is plug the Dell mouse in the USB port, the computer will recongize the mouse.

Yep. If it's Windows XP, it'll detect the mouse once you plug it in. If it's an older version of Windows, you might need drivers
