Dictator Dumbya was the first (maybe the second if you see how Hayes got the job) to be installed by extra Constitutional processes... that is STOLE it. Ford was not the winner of ANY election, but assumed office LEGALLY and according to the Constitution. Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!

By saying Gerald Ford was technically elected is to say Bush was thoroughly and unequivocally elected.

Gerald Ford was appointed. Bush won the election; while the results were contested, Florida never managed a full recount before the Supreme Court decision, so Bush won without the FL recount.

So, Gerald Ford is the first and ONLY president not elected. He lost to Carter in '76.

No Gerald Ford was not elected. As has been reported numerously today, has appointed as Vice President after Spiro Agnew resigned, and then ascended to the presidency upon the resignation of Richard Nixon on August 9th 1974.

Ford was never elected President or Vice President.

Bush was elected although in a stormy and controversial manner

Ford was not elected as President in any way. He was appointed as Vice President by Nixon after Agnew resigned and then confirmed by the Senate. He then became President after Nixon resigned.

So Ford was the second President not elected by popular vote and Bush was third. In 1800 Jefferson was elected by the House after tying Burr in the electoral college.

Bush being the first president not elected by the people is a joke about he didn't win the popular vote. Plenty of presidents ascended to the office without being elected due to the resignation, death or assassination of their predecessor.

Technically, John Tyler was the first president not elected by the people as his predecessor, William Henry Harrison, died in office less than a year into his presidency.

No Bush was the first president to win the election and loose the popular vote.

Yet another reason to abolish the electoral college.
