Is there a place to find the "blueprints" of the WWW? Details on how it works, etc? I've looked everywhere, but can't seem to find it.

Well, I will tell you how it works. There is no main server for all the Internet providers on the WWW, but each provider has one of their own. For example, Google has a server somewhere that when you go onto their website, it pings to their server and it pings back to you with all of their information needed to help you search for what you need. How it works is, when you turn on your computer and connect to the Internet it will send a message to the server to say that there is a new user and to pull up the information for them as fast as possible, and they do that. When you search fro something, however, what it does is it analyzes what you typed in and it pulls specific (or non-specific) information related to the name in vein you searched. (Example: the word dog. when you search it on google, it may bring up results for dog training, and etc . . .). That is how it works.
