It means defensive back. Certain positions can have multiple names. For instance in a running back in some positions is called the tail back. This is one of those positions. They are generally called corners and safeties, but in a dime package and sometimes in the nickle, they are called defensive backs. The reason they are called defensive backs is because of the ease of use for the announcers. For instance a corner (especially back up corner) could be the third safety in the dime package. So instead of saying Deon Sanders is now playing third safety, they just call him a defensive back.

DB stands for Defensive Back. Cornerbacks, Free Safetys, and Strong Safteys are all DB's. Simple as that :-)

DB stands for defensive back meaning the saftys and the conerbacks like champ baily and brian dawkins are definsive backs.
