I know that there is a log file out there that tracks SU attempts (both completed, and failed), but I can't recall the name of the file.

I know that there is a log file out there that tracks SU attempts (both completed, and failed), but I can't recall the name of the file.



Thanks to those that answered my question, but I should have said RH Linux, as I can't locate /var/adm/...

The default for most Linux systems is /var/log/sulog. You might want to check in /etc/logins.defs to see whether su logging is enabled, though. Check if the variable SYSLOG_SU_ENAB is set to yes. If it is, the variable SULOG_FILE contains the path of the log file.

Try this place on an AIX server, which should be similar on other flavors of UNIX:

/var/adm/sulog

/var/adm/sulog you must be root to view.
