I'd trust your doctor's opinion over the responses you're likely to receive here (unless they, too, are doctors). Didn't you ask this question of him/her?

EDIT: It's funny how everyone who gave the same type of advice I did, myself included, got a 'thumbs-down', while those who said "don't worry about it - it'll be OK" got positive responses. What a joke. I'd go on - but I've got a sharp pain in my chest and numbing down my left arm. I think I'd better call my hairdresser and ask if I should be concerned.

It can be. depending on the age of the machine, it might not be as sensitive. If the Dr. wasn't worried, then you shouldn't be. If he thought there was something wrong he would have tried a different machine or run other test, or given you some sign.

A lot of machines don't always pick things up until the 12th week or so.

Call him with your concerns, I'm sure he'll take the time to answer your questions and alleviate your fears.
Congrats on your new edition.

I wouldn't worry. I saw my doctor when I was exactly 11 weeks, and he tried to find the heartbeat with a handheld Doppler - but warned me ahead of time that he didn't really think he'd be able to hear it, as the uterus is still mostly in behind the pubic bone at that point. He didn't hear it - but he said next time he saw me, at 15 weeks, he'd be able to hear it for sure. Don't worry...

Yes. I remember with my daughter, the nurse looked with the doppler thing for about 15 minutes before she could locate a faint beat. It's still early and can be hard to detect. Your doctor would have taken you for an emergency sonogram if he thought there was any problems. Just relax.

When I was pregnant with my daughter they couldn't hear her heart beat till I was 14 weeks along. If the doctor gets worried he will order an ultra sound just to make sure everything is fine. I wouldn't get to worried about it.

I also didn't get to hear the heartbeat at 11 weeks. My doctor won't even try to hear it that early. However my doctor does ultrasounds at every visit so we got to see the heartbeat at 11 weeks and 1 day. I am so glad my doctor does ultrasounds everytime although that is rare for doctors to do that. Doing ultrasounds every visit also helps to diagnose problems early on. My next ob appointment is Jan 8th and they said I might be able to hear the heartbeat. I will be 15 weeks.

No try not to stress. Doctors can still have a difficult time at 11 weeks. At 14 weeks the doctor will have no problems finding it from that point on.

Oh I am so sorry to hear what you are going through!! Sometimes they are able to hear the heartbeat at 11 weeks, but if not they should be sending you for an ultrasound to check on baby--just in case. If they have not already set one up for you (which should be immediately) do NOT hesitate to go to the emergency room--!! I Hope things turn out ok with baby....good luck and don't give up hope just yet.

dont worry some tiems its hard to find the heart beat---cuz the baby is so small.. The first time I heard my babies heart beat---my doctor told me that she may or may not hear it---but to no worry that it was normal---at that time I was 9-10 weeks-----and it took her a long time---but she found it-----so just wait for your next appoitnment....
