Due to Zito signing with the Giants, this is changing:
1. Dodgers - They made the best moves in the offseason. Their rotation is the deepest and overall they seem to have the most youth/potential talent. They could use a power bat.
2. Padres - They didn't really add much to a team that was just pretty good last year. Khalil Greene must stay healthy for them to compete, cause he provides defensive and offensive help. They too have a huge power hole in their lineup. Their rotation, even with Maddux is not very strong.
3. Giants - They just got Zito to replace Schmidt. He won't be as dominant as Schmidt, but should be an adequate number 1 guy. Their rotation isn't very deep behind him and they have an old team with various liabilities (overall defense, rotation depth, closer)
4. Rockies - Youth youth youth. Will the young guys be productive or will they fail like some many others have in Coors? My bet is the do well enough to be competitive, but are still a year and a few trades away from really challenging for the NL west crown.
5. Diamondbacks - This is hugely dependant on whether or not the get Randy Johnson (and what they give up for him). Johnson and Webb would be a solid top of the rotation and the young power hitters may blossom even more. Johnson and a huge year from Connor Jackson and these guys move ahead of the Padres on the list. Currently, there are just too many questions.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers - Good pick ups of Schmidt, Pierre, and Gonzalez. They look better than last year and it will show.
2. Colorado Rockies - Good young upcoming team with young pitching staff. Team has a good leader in Helton. Look at their team.
3. San Diego Padres - Not much has changed. Pizza out and Maddux in.
4. San Francisco Giants - There will be no World Series trip for
Bonds this year. This team needs help in so many areas. It will not be a good year for the Giants.
5. Arizona Diamondbacks - How desperate are they? They are thinking about trading for Randy Johnson. A 43 year old pitcher who just had back surgery. Look at this team, they lost everyone.
They will lose well over a 100 games this year.

The top team in the nl i think is the the cardinals because they have great hitting, fielding, and not a bad pitching staff
but no nl team is as good as al just look at the allstar game nl doesnt have good pitching thats why they hit better and when al pitchers go to nl they are amazing when nl goes to al they suck
Go yankees

2. Giants - better than other 3.
3. Padres - better than the other 2.
4. Colorado - have more experienced players than Diamondbacks.
5. D-backs - new ugly uniforms and real young and no pitching.

I'd say they are all equal. If Padres, Giants, or D-backs get Johnson i believe they become a favorite in the west.

I am a giants fan but I don't think they have enough talent to win the weak division.
