It depends on where you are, what there is around you.
small independent theaters usually do well with older movies, classics that people enjoy the opportunity to see on the big screen again. Documentaries can do really well.
Holiday double features, show some classic horror films around Halloween. That sort of thing can really bring people in.
A small theater I go to often shows documentary films every Friday. He is near a college and does really well with that. He has long intermissions in the middle of the film, and has a coffee bar and seating in the lobby rather than a snack counter. People hang out and chat for hours after the film. Anything out of the ordinary from the regular blockbuster movie going experience should do really well.

How about doing day long marathons. Like Monster movies, sci-fi, or funny movies. Show 3 or 4 per day and only charge one price for all day. After 10:30pm or 11 show classic T&A movies from the 80's.

The Pursuit of Happyness, one of my faves. The newest one Mel Gibson just made(I can't remember the title). Charolotte's Web, a very cute movie. Oh, and The Simpson's Movie, which is coming out next year on July 27th.

what kind of ppl are u targeting it 4?
there is a little bar showing films in my area for free and it started out by showing any random film (if i can remember well it was fight club) and then by the end of the film he suggested 3 more films and we got to choose from those. right now everone just gets a film he thinks the rest of the crowd would enjoy.
its quite fun

A guy dies.
He is now entering the gates of hell.
The devil tells him he can go back to earth if you can complete my 5 obstacles.
He finishes all 5 obstacles just barely.
He ends up not dying and is back on earth.
He changes his life.
okay not a good theatre idea but okay

Anything with Dakota Fanning, Orlando Bloom, or Julia Roberts is always a good pick. You'll get kids, teens, and adults into your theatre.
