My brother is in a relationship with a chick who is ignoring him alot because he brings up serious **** to her all the time and she already stressed out enough. He says she is his dream and if he cant have her then he is giving up at life. Everynight talks about death and suicide and needs help. but he says if he was to get help it has to be on his terms, on how long he stays. He thinks he knows whats best for him when he goes and thinks he only needs the medicine and not the doctor to talk to him. he says ill go to "georgia regional" a mental institution, but im only gonna stay to get medication and he'll leave when he feels its best for him. but he is waiting for the relationship to be over. but he wont end the relationship and no matter how she treats him or what she does he wont break it off. its like he is obsessed with her because she is his whole life, well thats what he acts like.my? is what should i do when he wont get help? i dont want to call the law on him.

Sometimes people are in a position that they are spinning in their problems too fast to be 'handled'. They oftentimes need to 'crash' in order to be better prepared to accept whatever help is available.

I am in a similar situation with someone (they are being very delusional) and the only thing possible is to be there for them (and to constantly reassure them that you are there for them) so that when they do crash, they will remember you are the one who cared for them, so they will be willing to listen to what you have to say. Your brother is pretty much blinded by his own pain to hear and/or see the help and love of those around him, but that doesn't mean he will always be like that. If he is doing something dangerous, then you can intervene, but most people cannot be 'forced' into therapy because they work against it and it consequently fails.

Be ready, be willing, and be open for your brother when he is ready to be helped. And if he does ask for a limited amount of help, then start by giving him that. Maybe that first initial step is what helps him realize he needs more than just medication.

Unfortunately not much you can do, esp if he's over 17. There are no laws which state "if he's too into his woman cuz he's crazy lock em up for his own good".

He's not breaking any laws, so even calling the law on him won't do him, or you, any good. Cept maybe piss him off and make him stop talking to you....

Just watch him and keep talking. He's listening even if he tries not to let that on...
