I know a couple of unmarried couple's who have had this problem. I am understanding when it come's to people's beliefs, so it would not hurt my feelings if someone refused to rent to me cause i was not married. A friend of mine was going to buy a house instead of rent and the owners refused to sell it to her because her and her fiancee were not married. I just think that is stupid. Let me know how you really feel about my question.

I agree, it is stupid. Whether someone is married legally, or just common law..they are the same people. I'd rent it out a home to unmarried couple for sure.

I was a landlord--the only thing that crossed my mind when renting to unmarried couples is if they would stay together through the lease. Yes, I know that couples that are married do divorce--but it is a bit easier to walk away when you are not married to each other. It never stopped me from renting to them though.

As for the person you know that the owners refused to sell them a house because they weren't married. Not that just seems to be a bit over the top. Possibly if the house was on a land contract (and that is next to none now-a-days). But who in their right mind would refuse a good offer if the buyer was getting a mortgage and paying the seller in full? I would strongly suspect those friends didn't qualify for a mortgage, and they were using the "unmarried" reason as an excuse to save face.

Well, I'd rent to an unmarried couple if and only if both names were on the agreement. My fiance and I rented a house with three other room mates (not related) and things were OK. Good luck to you guys!

Not only is that stupid, it might be illegal. I might be wary to rent a house to an unmarried couple, unless BOTH their names were on the lease.

There is no excuse or reason not to sell someone a house because they are unmarried. Heck, with the housing market the way it is, I would even sell my house to someone who married a dolphin.

The people who bought my house were totally obnoxious! I was moving, so what did I care who was going to live there as long as they paid the right price. The people I did think about in this regard however, were my neighbors. What did I think? I thought how well suited they would all be! After all, they were the reason we moved! Lots of engaged couples buy houses together - what is the problem?

I feel like it is really stupid, as long as both names are on the contract (wheter it is renting or owning), l don't see a problem with that. My boyfriend and l are buying our house and we are not married, both our names are on the mortgage papers and we've had no trouble with that.

That's stupid. The renter was probably giving an option to buy where he prefered a married couple, because both names would be on the mortage/purchase aggreement. and both would be responsible for the payments

They probably have good intentions, it ought to not be what you want to hearken to...yet they are probably weary of the difficulty. not that they imagine you're undesirable, or she will be able to't manage it...they basically experience they favor to guard her. i don't think of i'd say bypass in at the same time after 6 months...yet thats as a lot as you 2... i'd basically make confident the committment is there. It mayby that she basically desires to have an man or woman communication with them and allow them understand how she feels with out whining or making excuses (not declaring that she does) i understand its troublesome yet you'll basically ought to respire and allow it exercising recurring in case you extremely favor to be at the same time with her. desire it facilitates.
