A pejorative way to label that comes from "new conservative". Since many were in the Defense department, they are easy targets. This group is a throw back to the Reagan days. They will claim that deficit spending is 'conservative' when it is for their causes. They are interventionist in foreign policy. They don't always care about social conservative causes like abortion or immigration. Many have a dual loyality to Israel.

"Neo" meaning New...and "Con" short for conservative.

Personally, I define Neo-con as those conservatives that have hijacked the Republican Party of Barry Goldwater....they rose to power with Newt Gingrich and the "Contract With America"

The Neo-cons owe a lot of their power to the religious right, which is why your average Neo-Con is anti gay rights and anti abortion.

Neo-Cons are the main reason I stopped being a Republican and became a Libertarian.
