Sadly, I would like to know how it feels to be burned. I'm writing a book and in it, my main character has to be burned by fire. I can't really make it realistic if I don't know how it feels. So tell me, how does it feel to be burned by fire?

at first, it is the worst pain immaginable, it hurts so bad that your body actually shuts down your pain receptors, and it goes numb. When you get it out of the fire, your first reaction is to put it under freezing cold water, so you do that and you actually see the blisters form and your skin begining to peel away. The water gives you a very temporary relief, and after a few seconds it back to a searing pain that can not be described.

It can be very painful. If it is a 1st or 2nd degree burn, however a 3rd degree burn sears through the nerves and there is no feeling left at all. Have you ever had a sunburn that blisters, that is a 2nd degree burn. It is very painful. You feel hot all over or where you are burned. Then if anything touches it OMG! PAIN like you cannot imagine. That is not something you would like to feel.

Try putting you hand over a fire or the flame of a candle, hold it there as long as you can stand it, then multiply that sensation by a thousand and you might be getting close.
Bottom line is it hurts very bad.

I set my sleeve on fire by getting too close to a Bunsen burner in the 8th grade and received 2nd degree burns on my arm. At the time I was on fire,I felt only panic but later the burn throbbed with a raw intensity. Throbbing and intense heat like holding your hand under scalding water are the only things I remember.

I have been, third degree. Hot coals from camp fire went down my boots. Burnt the skin black. Lost all the skin and scars have to be injected once in a while to dissolve them. The only worst pain I had was a burst appendix which is said to be equal to child birth

Friend of mine was set on fire by gasoline while working on a mini-bike. Severely disfigured. Said he would have rather died then feel his arms, face, and chest burning.

You could see if you could spend some time in a burn unit of a local hospital to get some insight and perspective. You could get alot of info and perspective by visiting one and talking to nurses and doctors in a burn unit. My step mother worked in one. The stories something to hear.

Yes, i have.
I was about 5 years old and I was trying to lean on a box with my right arm. Without looking, my arm landed on the smokin' hot BBQ
At first it was more shocking than painful.

A guest at my house grab the first thing she saw and placed it on my arm.

The butter made the pain unbareable.

Good luck.

Yes, at first it feels terrible like thousands of ice shards that pierce your skin. It makes you feel like you want to pull away, but can't. In a moment it feels like you're trapped in a vortex as numbness swirls around you. You want to be in control so you don't pull away. After a while someone will eventually pull you away, but the pain stays.

I've accidentally touched an extrememly hot log at a camp...it stung really bad, and later on, I felt dull pulses on my fingertips where I touched the wood. Hope this was any help...what kind of story IS that though?

Some victims have written about their experience; that avenue may provide a fuller insight. Your question triggered too much, for me to answer; but I, thoroughly, understand your motive. :-
