Your devices will most likely work. I would wait until at least the first major service pack is released after they get all the kinks and bumps worked out at launch.

Vista is new and cool and there are a lot of features that I really like. I've been beta testing it for over a year now. I was part of the non-public beta. As with any new operating system there will be hardware issues. Your mp3 player will most likely work since most of them will function as a simple usb hard drive (as far as windows is concerned). If you use the software that came with it that may be another story. Your webcam will most likely have drivers (the software that makes it works with windows) at some point in time if they do not already. One thing to try is using the Windows XP drivers. Many of them will work on Vista. During our testing we used many audio, video and Nic drivers designed for XP on Vista without issue. If you can't live without Vista you'll have a few issues to deal with on your hold hardware. Maybe major maybe not. If you can hold off I'd wait at least 6 months for vendors to catch up on making driver software for devices before making the jump.

FYI, anybody who says Windows 2000 is better than XP obviously doesn't know what they're talking about. I've administered Windows 95-Windows 2003 Server in a corporate invironment for over 9 years now and Windows 2000 was as big of a piece of crap as Windows NT was. Also, you wouldn't upgrade from xp to 2000 you would be downgrading.

Wait until you can no longer use XP effectively. For as long as XP is working fine for you, leave well enough alone. I tried the beta for Vista and it was a bigger headache than I bargained for. The same thing happened when Windows ME came out. I had 98SE and I refused to upgrade. My friends who upgraded to ME had all kinds of problems and issues (not to say that 98 didn't either) but 98 remained more stable for most of my apps.

You should wait until hell freezes over to get Vista.

Vista is going to be even slower and more unstable than XP. If fact, you really should *upgrade* from XP to 2000. 2000 was the best version of windows so far, and by the looks of it, will be the best version of windows for many versions to come.
