My wonderful soon to be bride is taking a medication called accutain for her acne. I think she is beautiful just the way she is and tell her that often. But she is a bit younger than me, 18 years to be exact, and I think she feels like she wants to look "perfect" for our wedding in Feb. I can not emphasize enough that I am NOT one of those guys who nags about appearance. I love her for HER and what is inside her heart. With that said, I feel like she is having some of the side affects that are posted about accutain. Namely, mood swings, very emotional, angers easily, all things very common to this drug and very very VERY uncommon to her. I have made a suggestion to her to talk to her doctor, but she refuses. My question is not whether I should pursue this, but how is the best way to do it without appearing like I am trying to control her. This drug is affecting her health and our relationship and I want to do something now for her and us.

Her mood swings, anger, etc. may not be from the accutaine. It could possibly be that stress to look good, wedding plans and life in general is making her moody. If you have made your feelings clear then it is up to her to make changes. Her doctor won't talk to you unless she gives him permission. Doctor/Patient confidentiality. Let her know that you are VERY concerned about her recent behavior, don't blame it on the medicine. It will only make things worse and take attention off the real problem--her attitude, mood swings etc. You guys need to be able to talk about anything, anytime, anywhere if you are going to be married.

It won't matter what you tell your fiancee about her skin. We are different than men on this issue. We make sure our skin is clear for ourselves. We aren't doing it for anyone else. Of course, your woman has a problem with the pills she is taking. You need to either express her mood swings and such or video her and allow her to see how she is for herself. Pro-active is a better acne medicine and it's external. This would help her more than the accutain. You need to address this issue now because it will only get worse if she doesn't do something about it. This is very serious and you need to express to her that this marriage won't happen unless she gets help. Good luck and GOD bless.

Do your research on the meds (accutane)contains isotretinoin print it out, highlight the side affects: This medication has tons of side affects that she should be concerned about ( near future)
Read Below about Accutane:
All patients treated with isotretinoin should be observed closely for symptoms of depression or suicidal thoughts, such as sad mood, irritability, acting on dangerous impulses, anger, loss of pleasure or interest in social or sports activities, sleeping too much or too little, changes in weight or appetite, school or work performance going down, or trouble concentrating, or for mood disturbance, psychosis, or aggression.

Print out the information on this medication, talk to your finance, you two should make an appt to speak with her dermatologist right away!

Good Luck

She seems to have madeup her mind to take the drug.No amount of persuasion and convincing her are going to help.Infact the more u chase the topic the more adamant she will get!!! So leave it ! Ignorance is the best remedy for this situation. But be firm and tell her that she should keep asking u if it has improved her skin or not....bcoz if u say YES she will continue to take the medicine and if u say NO she will still continue to take it!! NO WIN SITUATION FRIEND! IGNORe it the problem will evaporate!

Accutain is poison. The only reason she feels the need to take it is because commercialism shoves their version of 'beauty' on us so they can sell us more stuff.

The world always pushes physical beauty (their idea of it anyway) and never consider the inner beauty of someone who is kind and caring (and pretty.)

I hope you guys do well.

Wait for her skin to clear up and then see if she will talk to you about changing it. It's really hard, I take birth control for medical reason and it does the same thing to me. I cry all the time. Also she has to take the drug for a bit and her body may adjust. Give it sometime and revisit it.

Did you say Dr or Pediatrician? One of the side effects of a female 18 years your Jr is acme it will go away when she grows up. In the meantime I guess you will just have to put up with it.

she may not be taking the medicine for you. She may be taking it for herself but once it starts to affect you 2 than I think you should go talk with the Dr. Also rem. she might just be stressed b/c of the wedding. Just talk it out and then make plans for whatever you 2 think is best.

If you can't work this out then you have no business getting married.
