They are two different types of birds. Swallows are insectivores, eating only bugs and feeding on the wing. Their long slender wings and body enable them to be long distant migrants. Sparrows are basically seed eaters, feeding on the ground, though they will occasionally eat insects. Their structure is different, being adapted to their particular feeding style and habitat. They do migrate, but not as far as some swallows. There a number of different species of each of these types of birds. In the United States there are 8 commonly found species of Swallows and over 40 species of Sparrows.
