My girlfriend and I dated for 2.5, she broke up with me unexpectedly 1 month before Chritmas with no clear reason(by that I mean no one did anything wrong, there was no 1 thing that broke us up) She has never remained in contact with any of her ex-boyfriends, but she say's she does not want to lose contact with me, still wants to hear of the good things going on in our seperate lives etc... She's even gone as far as using the "friends" word, although of course I wouldn't be like a normal friend. My question is why does she want to keep me at arms length, why stay in contact? What does this mean?

Booty calls, possible get-back-together, or really just as a friend.
However, it doesn't work. I have tried it, and it seems everytime I do get in touch with my best ex ever he thinks there's something more. He always got hurt, so now I just leave him alone. If he contacts me I respond but I won't contact him.

My advice: try to move on. Eventually, that's what is going to happen anyway, but the question is what is she going to have to do to make it impossible for you to be friends and lose ALL of your respect for her?
In some rare cases, you can become friends if you both move on, but it really sucks if you manage to get to the point where you no longer want the romantic thing only to have your heart broken by the same woman again because she really hasn't moved on to where you can be friends, and she's just out making the same mistakes all over again or playing the field.

My boyfriend who seems to have the same name as you did the same thing it most likely means she still has feelings she just doesnt want to be together but i say if its time to move on then dont be "friends" because she is just pulling you by a string and you will never get over her take your space for awhile that doesnt mean totally ignore her it means yeah if she just says hi to you go ahead and say hi back but dont get in a real friend relationship or you will find yourself hanging on and holding yourself back from other things.

I'm unsure of your history together, but if you have been living with her, chances are it's going to be really rough on you both to quit seeing each other cold turkey. She obviously still cares about you and wants to know how you are doing. Breaking up doesn't mean that you stop caring unless things have gone sour during the break-up.

She wants to eat her cake and have it. Maybe she wants to date other guys or something there must be a reason, and if you are not the problem then she has something else going on in her life. In case it does not work out she wants to run back to you that is the reason for still holding on but letting go.

She might want to get back with you if things dont go her way as far as not being together. It's up to you if you want to or not...
