Can anyone tell me why bother digitally recording When all I have to do is spend $100 bucks on nice microphone.

No I can't - I agree retro is better.
There can't be many recording artists who record totally digitally, you are starting with analogue sound unless you only use keyboards with no vocals, so analogue recording makes sense.
The only exception is of you are doing some atmospheric stuff which only uses sythesizers - in that case it would make sense to go straight to digital. I don't kow if they do it now, but CD's used to carry a lable to show how it had been recorded:
AAD Analogue recorded analogously and written to digital disk
ADD Analogue recorded digitally, written to digital disk
DDD Digital all the way through.....
You don't find many DDD's, but I guess this type of thing is on th increase, especially now you can get quality USB microphones.
