Who's the man: Phil Collins or Tom Petty?

Comparisons are odious in this case. Their musical styles are so divergent as to make judging one by the other literally impossible. What criteria are there by which to judge? Both are great in their own genre, like them or not. It boils down to personal taste; the man in one man's eyes is not the man in another's. I happen to like Petty's music better than Phil Collins, but I'm a guitarist and their music is guitar driven; someone somewhere has a different opinion, of course.

And for the guy who claimed that Tom Petty has been around longer, Phil and Genesis were around as far back as 1973. I believe Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers emerged in the late 70s.

tom petty is classic but i am going to have to go with phil collins because he had a sucessfull carear single and when he was with genisus tom petty was never in a famous band
