I told him that i had a gun but that didn't stop him I shot one time at him then i dropped the gun and ran for the back front door, all i remeber is feeling a bad pain in my leg then i guessed i passed out, and woke up in the hospital. My neihbor told me later they heard the noise and called 911. I have had to have 3 surgerys on my leg and i still have problems with my legs. I can't do much of any thing any more with my leg i really can't ride my horses i used to barrel race and was very active but now my leg hurts all the time and i just can't seem to get my live back together. I can't understand why the state did not help me in any way. on the report it states that is was a unknown assualt i don't know what that means. they never even called me I have medicare which paid 80% but I havh to pay the 20%. I'm still paying for it.

So, the robber shot you? They never caught the criminal?

That's what insurance is for. The state has nothing to do with it, unless you file for Social Security Disability benefits.

I don't understand why you would expect them to just step in and become your caretaker. There are programs you can apply for if you need help.

Some states have a victims assistance program but, you need to show that you need it, I believe. And since 80% of your bills were covered, you would have a hard time doing that. While it is terrible that you had to go thru this, it isn't really the responsibility of the state to reimburse you. They never harmed you. I do feel for you.I can appreciate the hardship that this has placed on you.Maybe you can turn your experience into a positive by volunteering with organizations that help people in similar circumstances. Best Wishes

Call someone at the District Attorney's office and ask if they have a victim's assistance program. Our state does and it helps the victims of violent crimes pay for the cost of the medical bills as well as offers counseling and support for the victim. I would also ask them what is being done to find this assailant. You deserve justice. Good luck!

In order to receive state aid you have to apply for it. Check with your state offices on how to do that. If you are permanently disabled, then call the Social Security office and see how to apply for disability. In the mean time it would be a good idea to attend a local survivors of violent crime support group. Check with your local Sheriffs office or YWCA for where these things may be. Also check with your local churches.

What do you expect the State to do? Did they catch the intruder? Why did you drop your weapon? And why did you only shoot once? You need to empty the magazine at the intruder. Two to the chest, one to the head. Had you taken any firearms courses?

I PAY for my insurance....alot is taken out of my paycheck and I STILL have to pay 20%. I don't understand what your question is. If you own horses, you've got some money, as horses are expensive. I don't know why you expect the state to help you. Do you have homeowners insurance?

You need to call the police and check on the status of your case. Put a firecracker under thier *** and let them know how your life has been affected. DON"T just fall into the background. Call them once a week to check on the status of your case and don't let them forget about you!
