bad timing..
at the moment its not the safest place in Mexico, althought its a lovely place. It wouldnt help much if you stay at the tourist sites only, nor speak our language, if they see you as "whitey" with the possibility to get dollars of you, sadly they will take it..
but there are lots of places in Mexico wich are safe and as lovely as Oaxaca is.. I can suggest you Puebla, San Miguel de Allende, Queretaro, Morelia, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, etc. This places are usually loved by everyone and usually everyone speaks english, its cheap to travel to and safe all time.

My cousin is living there right now, and things are not quite settled down yet. We love Oaxaca, but we are not going there for awhile. Pick another place to go in March.
