So I received a phone call earlier today saying that I would receive to boarding passes for a cruise if I answered a survey. I did it and talked to a "representative" and gave them only my cell phone number and name. I have been researching this and think that it is a scam and I know I should've done that earlier but I'm only human and screwed up. What do you think I should do because I do not want to have anything bad happen on account of these bastards and my own naive demeanor. I sent a message to my cell phone company telling them what happened and gave them the number to the place that called. But I don't know where to go from there. I would really appreciate any advice that could be offered because I am kind of freaking out about it. Thanks:)

Don't freak out yet. You haven't given out that much information. You did'nt give out any credit card information. Just be very careful in the future, because they will probably call you back. You never know, you might be lucky, and it might be legit. When they call back, listen to what they have to say, and at any point they ask you for money, that's when you say goodbye, and hang up. I wouldn't worry at this point, just keep a close eye on your cell phone bills for any discrepencies, and relax!! I'm sure it's no big deal. You're not naive, these people are very very good at what they do.

Don't beat yourself up, it can happen. Just be more careful next time.

I would suggest contacting each of your credit card companies as well as your bank. You could do this by calling each one or, better yet, write one letter to each of them. Explain the sitation and provide as much detail as possible. Explain that you would like your account "flagged" so that if any unusual charges come up, you can be notified.

After doing this - keep an eye on your statements for the next few months just to be on the safeside.

I fell for the "hey can you answer this survey" and we received a ton of junk mail and spam. Just keep an eye on your accounts and you should be good.

If you just gave your cell number and name you should be fine. Just don't give your ss#. Since you have no credit cards or bank accound I wouldn't worry. Telemarketers get people's numbers all the time. You'll be fine. Happy New Years!

Are you sure you only told them your name and phone number? If so, you probably don't have anything to worry about. Run a credit check on yourself in a few months, and if you notice anything strange, then take legal action.

well, if you only gave them your name and cell number (no credit card number or social security number) you should be ok, to be on the safe side you could change your cell number. Just incase they are trying to use your number to make stolen calls or something. I'd change it.
