After reading many replies to these threads i have noticed that many people have said things like " screw the liberals" and " Liberals are screwing up America." well hear is my reply to you, why do you like have to fallow someones footsteps. We need people like us Liberals to stand up for what we feel is right. How do you think Women got to have the same rights as men? Why do you think coloreds and whites have the same rights? It is becuase of us Liberals that we can have these rights, we faught for our belifes and won. Now you tell me what is wrong with that huh??

There is nothing wrong with being liberal!!
Without the American revolution we'd still be English not American! Also there wasn't Democrat and republican back then. It was the wigs and something else.
Now Lincoln only freed the slaves from the southern states and it was to cause chaos for the union.Whoever said that"Lincoln freed the slaves...." He didn't free ALL the slaves only the ones on the southern states. All slaves weren't free for a long time. Than Blacks (African Americans) were only given the same rights ( at least in writing) because of the temperance movement. Which by the way turned into the women's' movement.
There is nothing, nothing wrong in being Liberal or other. Personally I am a liberal but that's because I don't think it's right for one group to decide what others should do with their bodies or with their life. It should be up the individual to make their own decisions. As long as they aren't harming other people than it's their own choice.

You can't compare liberals from the past to liberals of today. Most of the old school liberals would be considered conservative by today's standards. Liberals today are trying to take the country in a scary direction. The want to eliminate parents right over their children, lower the age of consent in some states, legitimize sexual deviant behavior, have totally unfettered abortion. Yes they stick up for what they believe, but the things they believe are questionable. Modern day liberals are no more than socialists and want to push a perverted agenda.

ellisMC, easy question to answer. First off, you have no clue about history and voting in congress. I doubt you have any clue as to what bill was passed in 1964. Further doubt you know the voting record of Liberals and Republicans.
Here's a heads up for you. 1964 and the Civil Rights Act. Yes, your staunch Liberal represenitives such as, Ted Kennedy,(the swimmer) Robert Byrd of WVA of the KKK.The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed by Republicans. Abraham Lincoln, Republican,freed the slaves.

See what is wrong with the whole US is exactly what you said... "Liberals stand up for what we feel is right" quote unquote.
If everybody stood up for what they "feel" is right and not what is right itself theives, rapist, murderers child abusers, ect., ect., could start protesting that there shouldn't be any laws that prevent them from doing what they "feel" is right.
People get carried away because they have a personal opinion that they think everyone else should be subject to, instead of stopping and thinking about the common good and how their grief with bluecollar americans will affect everyone else. An opinoin is like a asshole everybody's got one and should keep it to themselves.

I don't think anything's wrong with liberals. I am a registered Independent and the Republican party just flat out frightens me. Some of the "far left" liberals get on my nerves sometimes, but not nearly as much as the "far right" wingnuts - they're just plain dangerous people in my opinion.

the problem is that the liberals today are not the same people that promoted civil rights and sexual equality back in the days of our grandparents.
the liberals today are disconnected from the American people. They don't understand the belief system that American's hold true to. They think they know, which is why you'll see news coverage of prominent dems in church services the Sunday before election day.
What they do understand is that the American people are fickle and will change their opinion based on what the media presents to them or what the latest polls decry. The liberal of today takes advantage of the disadvantaged, instead of providing the opportunity to the disadvantaged of 40 years ago.
Today's liberal is hypocritical in most political areas. The war in Iraq is a prime example. Every single one of the dems that is looking to impeach the president, looked at the same intelligence reports before voting on the resolution to invade Iraq. Several of them are quoted as saying that we needed to rid Iraq of their WMD, only to turn around years later and blame the president for lying to the American people.
They support abortion in any stage of pregnancy, but they oppose the death penalty.
They oppose social security reform but refuse to amend the death tax code.
They voted for the invasion of Iraq before the "voted" against invading Iraq.
They have undermind everything that the President has done in his 6 years in office, including providing fuel to the fire that he was complicit with the 9/11 attacks.
They want to repeal the tax cuts that dug this country out of recession before the American people wake up and realize what that did for our economy after 9/11
The bottom line is, don't be afraid to state your political beliefs, but know that these people who call themselves liberals are not the same libs of your grandparents generation. They are corrupt, divisive, power hungry people who, I pray are someday exposed for the cancer that they are.

They need to know that the Founding Fathers were Liberals. Conservatives believe in sticking with the tried and true, and they resist the new and different. Well in 1776 monarchy was the tried & true, and there was no example of a self-governing Democracy. In promoting Demcoracy, plus secular government-- another innovation-- they were Liberals.

AMEN! republicans are just scared of change. liberals want to make things better, more equal. i do think people forgot that our fathers were liberals. two of our greatest presidents ever (though one could be argued) were Lincoln and FDR...both liberals. where would our country be without those two liberals. man, they ruined our nation didnt they. conservatives are quick to throw our that our founding fathers would be ashamed, but what they dont realize is that they would be ashamed of the conservatives! name one thing a conservative has done that radically changed our nation for the better.
