Because when your muscles are relaxed, your hands would be on their sides. Laying your hands flat takes muscles.

the way that the muscles in the arms and legs are laid out mandates that the position of least energy is not necessarily one where the hands lie flat.

simply put... your muscles have to work just a tiny bit harder to lie flat, so when you are sleeping, they will not lie flat, they will curl slightly and sit at an angle.

if you stand up and hold your arms and hands at your sides, and you relax as much as possible, you will feel like your arms and hands are just a little bit more relaxed when they arent straight . you'll see that they like to bend and twist slightly.

Well, it's uncomfortable and our hands just naturally curl up. just place ur hand on the table and don't use any energy and you'll see that our hand sort of curls up

They do. They wait for you to go to sleep before they do it, and then change position just before you wake up.
