First of all - unless you want a painful nasty infection - I dont recommend piercing yourself!
The cartilage hurts more but heals faster. (And its NOT THAT BAD, a quick poke and then they thread the jewelry and your done!) ((((PS: Go to a piercing shop - not Claire's or anything like that- get pierced by someone who does it Everyday--not just once in a while))))
My navel took a little over 6 months to fully heal and i took care of it EVERY DAY. I have several cartilage piercings and they took an average of 2-3 months to fully heal.
As for your mom....thats tougher....show her your responsible enough to take care of your piercing by doing chores, asking her if she needs help around the house....etc...Try to make a "bet" or "deal" with her. For example: If I can clean the house for you once a week and take out the garbage or raise my grades (whatever you think she'll go for) can I get my piercing next month...?
Something like that!
Good Luck and Happy Piercing!

i have 3 cartilage piercings. and a navel piercings. In my opinion the cartiage piercings have always hurt more. you only need to be 16 to get them done byt the professionals (without your moms consent) in most states i beleive (its liek that here in california)

since you are underage but i dont know what your age is you should alwyas frespect you mom even though its hard. ive been there trust me. but i bargained with my mom . I told her if i got good grades then she would take me to get my first cartilage piercings as a reward. she was skeptical she didnt wan tot go and see a whole bunch of peopel wiht tattoos and piercings allover but she actually struck up on nice conversation with the guy who would be piercings me (they are all reallynice no matter how intimidating they look lol)

but you should never attempt to pierce yoruself. like i have been saying when you get an infection from piercig yoursefl(and there is a very high chnace you will. this is why there are professionals that do piercings) you wil even be in more trouble by your mom when she needs to take you to the doctors to get on anti biotics.

if you pierce your navel you could hit a vein of the muscle and cause damage. it will most likely reject (your body literally pushing the jewelry out) since i assume you are still growming and you are shoving unsterilized needles and jewelry through the area. causing scaring (your navel being distorted) or keloids (over growth of scar tissue that can only be surgically removed)

if you pierce your cartilage you will also most liekliy get an infection. the infection could travel in between the layers of the cartilage causing cartilage collapse (premanently distorting you ear) and as well as keloid, (youyou are at higher chance for gettign keliods with the piercing gun at the mall sune they only push the skin away, they dont make a clean cut through liek the needles so that the professionals use)

do not ever pierce yourself. you dont know the proper sterliziation techniques. you mom would be very dissappointed and upset at you for doign it behind her back, you dont know the prope aftercare, you dont know you anatomy! if you navel or cartilage is suitable for the piercings.. the professionals will. if she doesnt let you then suck it up and wait a few years like everyone else does without risking harm to yourself by being to eager and piercing on your own....

OOH please do NOT whatever you do pierce yourself. My friend and i pierced our own belly buttons when we were younger and hers got VERY infected and the skin turned green. Please leave piercing to a professional.

Cartilage piercings are more painful and take longer to heal. Also they carry more risk of infection. You do not mention your exact age, but needing parental consent is for a reason. You should do google and yahoo searches on piercings. Things to look for at the parlor and such. Print it and review it with your parents. Be responsible and they may allow you to get it done now. If not, you'll have the information and knowledge for when you're old enough to go get it done without a parent.

Please make the right choice.

Belly hurts more. Cartilage doesn't hurt any more than a regular ear piercing (but a louder crunch). Ew, and don't peirce yourself. You'll just get an infection which is gross. Beleive me, you don't want one. Cartilage peircings aren't such a big deal. Try asking your mom nicely and support your argument with facts. Try this website- I randomly looked it up and it looked informational. Good luck!

If you aren't old enough, wait until you are. You could very well change your mind by then and too late, you are already scarred because of something you did when you were young and stupid. Yes they do scar, I have scars from when I had my belly button done. Twice (first one ripped out). Even more stupid would be to pierce yourself. Good way to screw that one up.

Anything you do to your body in an unnatural way is not worthy. Remember it is a generational fashion; but it will stay as a mark forever. There a re so many beautiful things you can do to be more beautiful and attractive; but it is up to you. There are people who like hurting sessions.

if you HAVE to do it yourself, do the cartilage. its really easy to mess up the belly ring.

as far as how much they hurt, the cartilage hurts more when they put it in, but the pain goes away really quick. the belly ring doesnt hurt as much right off the bat, but it keeps hurting longer.
