No you wouldn`t. but apart from that to other people here why is living in a council house scrounging for gods sake what kind of people use this forum .Council houses are not exactly rent free are they The rent the council charge is about the same as private rented and anyone is entitled to put their name down The only difference between council and private renting is your tenancy is more secure so your not liable to be out on the street at some landlords whim the people who are ranting about scrounging and such are sick in the head and need to get a life

No, you will not receive any money for giving up your tenancy, no matter how long you've been living there.
However, if you've spent your own money on making improvements to the property - for example, you've paid for a new kitchen to be put in, or something like that - you might be entitled to some of the cost of that back, depending on how long ago it was done, and a few other factors. You're best off speaking to your housing officer at the council if you think this might apply to you.
I hope this helps

No.
Even if you wanted to buy your property I am not sure that would be possible- didn't the government change the law and assign council housing to Housing Associations?
But most definitely, no, you will not get money for giving up a council tenancy.

The state helped you out and gave you shelter when you were down on your luck. How come you were in need of social housing for 17 years and now you can afford to buy a house?
It beggars belief that you think the council (i.e. taxpayers) owe you anything. You should be ashamed of yourself.

In my area bedfordshire, if you were to downgrade to a smaller property ie 2 bed flat or even a 1 bed then on enquirey by yourself you could be offered up to 500 pound as you are giving up a family home

Living in a council house doesnt necessarily mean you were 'down on your luck' when you moved in, nor that you are a scrounger dependant on the state.
Council housing is meant to be accessible, affordable housing for anyone who is not in a position to buy their own house.
Lots of people in council houses work and pay their rent, and dont get benefits.
some people should maybe keep quiet and stop making assumptions.
I lived in a council house for many years before I could afford to buy my own house.

No, but you could get compensation for any agreed improvements you have made. There are strict rules governing this. Contact your local council for details

They might offer you a loan but they won't give you free money. Call them and ask for more info or visit their website.
