I'm going to disney world in January and I haven't been there since I was a little kid. When I last went there, I did not go on any rides because I am a chicken. I'm braver now! I actually went on Revenge of the Mummy in Universal Studios...it was a HUGE deal for me. Anyway...I will be visiting Epcot and the countries. I understand that each country has a ride? Are they scary?

I am a Walt Disney World fanatic and EPCOT is my favorite of the four theme parks there. Actually, just a correction, each country does not have a ride. Only two of the countries have rides - Norway has the Maelstrom and Mexico has El Rio del Tiempo. The Maelstrom ride at the Norway Pavilion is very mild. If you've been on Revenge of the Mummy, you have nothing to worry about. That's a rollercoaster - the Maelstrom is just a slow-moving boat ride. It's dark and cold. You see fake polar bears. There's trolls, too, but I don't find them to be scary at all (not even when I was younger.) There's a couple small hills. You go forwards down one and backwards down the other, but they're both very mild. It's a fun ride. I really enjoy it.

El Rio del Tiempo is fun, too. It's even slower, though, and there's no hills at all. It's very cheerful with Audio-Animatronic children and happy music playing. I really like this one because it's inside the Mexico Pavilion. Inside is a restaurant that the boat goes by. There's also a temple and a volcano in the background. Be sure to go on the other rides in Future World at EPCOT, like Mission: SPACE, Test Track, and Soarin'. Journey Into Imagination with Figment, Living with the Land, and Ellen's Energy Adventure are other fun, slow-moving rides.

Hope I could help! Have a wonderful time!

"Maelstrom" is more thrilling than scary in my opinion; the ride may be scary for children because you encounter a three-headed troll during the ride.

Also, not every country has a ride; Mexico's El Rio del Tiempo is a slow boat ride inside the San Angel Inn Restaurant, China has "Reflections of China", a Circle-vision 360 movie; Canada has one as well, titled "O Canada". The American Adventure shows a 28-minute movie with animatronics featuring notable people and events in American history.

If you can survive Revenge of the Mummy I am sure you would have no trouble with Maelstrom. There is a mild drop and some trolls but other than that it is more educational as it is located in Epcot. Its actually one of my favorite rides..have fun!

maelstrom is not a scary ride. it is really fun. also epcot only has two rides in the countrys. norway has maelstrom and mexico has el rio del tiempo. also if you ride el rio del tiempo look at the volcano. every 30 seconds or so the volcano spits out a smoke ring in the shape of mickeys head! not many people see this because it disapears quickly.

I've been on it a few times, since I've been too Disney liek 10 times. The music is a bit scary, and at one part it might startle you to go backwards, but it is not a scary ride.

None of the rides in Epcot are "scary"... they are more educational in nature and appropriate for most ages.
