You presume there IS a collective purpose. I don't believe that.
My primary purpose changes with time. It used to be to care for my children until they were grown adn teach them to be self-reliant responsible adults. Now that they are independent, my primary purpose is to make some improvement in the world, even a tiny one like bringing a smile to someone's face today, or preserving a bit of family history that might otherwise be lost.

Their is no collective purpose for us on earth. It's all circumstantial nothing beyond that. My purpose of life is to complete my journey just like many others on this planet earth.

According to the Bible, our purpose is to glorify our Father in Heaven and enjoy an intimate relationship with him. We are also to draw others to him by setting a good example by the way we live and witnessing to them about what God has done in our lives. This does not mean that we preach to them. We are witnesses not lawyers.

Christians believe it is to reproduce and exhault God. I think the general overlying idea outside of christianity is to also reproduce but to live in harmony with each other and nature. If we fulfill our basic animal instincts then as a species we have made purpose of our life.

We are just Sims for a greater deity to play with! Of course, that deity wants the best for us but we all slip up occasionally. XD

Perhaps the answer is within your question. "Collective". Since we are growing further away from being collective, we may be moving further from our ultimate purpose, to coalesce. Together we are infinite, divided we are infinitely insignificant.

Our collective purpose on Earth is to destroy Earth itself in our living process, perhaps to learn, grow and finally disintegrate. I think our answers lie in death more than life.
