Okay dude I think that you obviously still have feelings for this ex partner. what is more important in dream interpretation is how you feel not the details of the dream. I'm guessing that you feel disappointed in not seeing her. You are probably experiencing issues of missing you family around this time of Christmas and feeling that your current relationships are superficial.

It could be a dream of looking back into the past (back into the happy memories). You can't find any of the family members because they have all moved on or moved 'out'. The same is true for the ex, you keep expecting her to show up as she was (which means the past) but the only thing she can be to you now is someone as close as a family member or as a friend. It could be you are looking for a way to move on, but can't because you keep hoping/looking into the past.

Happy past memories were only possible because, at the time, we weren't looking into/holding onto the past, so we were ready for whatever happened in the here and now. The past doesn't have to contain all the happy memories; the future can too if you allow for the possibility of it.

One of Freud's core beliefs about dream analysis is that you cannot analyse an individual's dreams without knowing the context of the individuals' life so don't bother listening to these interpretations. If you are really interested go an see a psychoanalyst or just save your cash, make up your own meaning and get on with your life.

It means that you should scrap your record collection and start collecting garden gnomes instead. At the same time try balancing an egg timer on your nose. In all honesty I don't think dreams mean that much, maybe a way of emptying out the junk that's stored there.
