If he lived for four years, then you took very good care of him indeed.
Unfortunately, hamsters don't live much longer than that. All I can say is be happy he had a very, very good life and a great friend like you. You will feel sad for a while, but in time it will subside and all your memories will be happy ones.
One day you might even get a new pet, but don't do it right away.
Unfortunately, grief is something that just has to work itself out.
Keep busy and spend time with friends and things will get better.
Good luck and God bless.

hi! Aww, i'm so sorry about your undesirable hamster! apparently you've been searching after it completely, so there's no opt to experience to blame. there's no opt to experience terrible about not crying a lot, you're of route a sturdy, courageous form. at the same time as my guinea pig died very last year (i became 10) I got here domicile from college, and placed him useless, I wasn't crying until eventually evening time, for approximately 1/2-hour. you do not opt to cry to experience or seem unhappy, see you later as you're, deep down interior. Did your puppy have a water bowl or bottle? If it had a bowl, then there is an threat he might want to of urinated into it then were given a nasty, deadly an infection. it would want to have also had a unexpected stroke or heart attack, like my gerbil regrettably died of about 7 months in the past. i'm so sorry about your hamster, yet with any success you may get a sparkling one. desire I helped!

When our sweet dwarf hamster Jiji died last year, my husband and I sat on the floor and held her in our hands and shed bitter tears. She had lost a lot of weight near the end of her days, and went from this plump little thing to a tiny bag of bones. That broke our hearts.
For weeks after that we talked about her as if she was still around. We could even hear her exercise wheel turn at night, because we didn't have the heart to throw out her cages or her toys.
Eventually we decided to get over the sadness and bought two other hamsters (Jiji had two cages, she lived like a queen with the best treats and two people doting over her). Now we have Maomao, a long-hair hamster with the sweetest disposition, and Tata, a black bear hamster who we rescued cause he hurt his leg as a baby. Later our family grew when we adopted Nunu, a little girl long-hair. My husband thinks she calls him "dad" when he feeds her.
Some people say hamsters don't make good pets because they don't live very long. I say poh to that. They are sweet, smarter than rabbits (ours will come to us when we call them), clean, and provide tons of joy, even if it's just for a few years.

I'm sorry. No reason for you to feel guilty if you kept a hamster alive for four years. You did a great job. I would say it's no slight to his memory for you go get another. It actually honors his memory because you enjoyed your pet/owner relationship with him so much that you want to save another hamster from impersonal pet shop life.
Don't feel bad about the crying either.
I cried when my tree frogs died last year (and I'm 45!), and I felt guilty, because I later found out that in the winter you have to mist them a few times a day if your house is too dry. I didn't realize that, and they probably did die because of my lack of proper care. I was afraid they'd be too cold and I relocated them too near to a heat vent. I felt awful, because I really loved them and thought I took good care of them.

Sorry to hear that your hamster died. Don't blame yourself. Sometimes life can be cruel and we lose our animals and it's not our fault. I lost a cat years ago that I really loved. He came back home with a hole in his head an animal bite him and he died in my arms. I was so upset and hurt but it's sometime we have to deal with wether it's animals or people. It's ok to be sad and cry but remeber the good times you had with him. You could get a new hamster and try again.

Take some time to feel sad and cry. Don't ignore your feelings. Then, when you are ready, look into getting a new pet that you can love just as much!

He lived for four years? You must have kept him very happy and healthy for him to live that long. Don't feel like a bad owner, because it sounds like you loved him a lot and took very good care of him.

If he lived for 4 years you did an awesome job of looking after him. Good on you.
No matter how big the pet, no matter how small the pet, they are all important to those who loved them. Do you have the support of friends and family?
Please allow yourself time to grieve, it's normal and natural to feel this way over the death of a pet.

I grieve every time one of my pet rats dies, and I've learned to allow myself to grieve as long as I need to, and how I want to. Usually I just like to be alone.
Time will pass and maybe, sooner or later, you will be able to let another little hammi into your heart.
