Mink oil will sometimes change the color of leather by darkening it. I like to use Guardsman Leather products because they clean and protect with one step. You can also use a product that is made by SC Johnson called Jubliee which is a spray on application that you wipe off and it also cleans and protects. You can get the Guardsman products at shoe repairs and some big box discounters. It is how I clean my leather upholstery and fine leather garments.

It depends on if it is smooth leather or rough suede. If it is suede, just use a suede brush. If it is smooth leather, try some vaseline. and I agree with the Mink Oil answer, too. Mink Oil is great for cleaning leather and for conditioning baseball mitts!
