The primary differences are the length, the content and the purpose. A resume is a one or two page summary of your skills, experience and education. A goal of resume writing is to be brief and concise since, at best, the resume reader will spend a minute or so reviewing your qualifications.
A Curriculum Vitae, commonly referred to as CV, is a longer (two or more pages), more detailed synopsis. It includes a summary of your educational and academic backgrounds as well as teaching and research experience, publications, presentations, awards, honors, affiliations and other details.

The difference is that a CV, or Curriculum Vitae is generally used in academia (education) and is more comprehensive and longer than a resume.
A resume is somewhere between 1 to 2 pages at the most, while a CV could easily be 5, 10, 15, or more pages in length.

Resume and CV in principal are similar. In North America (CAN & US) we use a resume for job applications while CV is widely used in the rest of the world. A resume is a document of your experience, education, what you can do for the new job, and why you want the job. A curriculum vitae is simply a document of your past experience and education accomplishments. It is used generally to prove your capability of answering questions or making a statement about a process. The CV is used a lot in court to prove you are a so called expert in the testimony you give.

There's no difference, just different names, but same purpose.
In Europe, we use the word "CV" or "Curriculum Vitae" for resume. The word derived from latin literally means "course of life."
