The good presidents are the presidents that cared about the poorest of those among us. FDR was one of these. My Mother who just died this year at 93 said Hoover almost starved the poor people to death. That was before the days of people actually believing and acting on helping those less fortunate. Even those with money that do care can do little to really help those less fortunate. That takes a Government.
I, as a child, remember giving to the poor but what we gave was what we did not want. Normally we gave through the church. I think that is still the attitude of the Church today. Give to the poor but give only what you don't want or can't use.

I can tell you are young a lot of naivety in your question first FDR saw over the internment of Japanese Americans even though there was never one act of sabotage by them, he is also the architect of the dependent society that so many Americans have let handicap them.
Truman poll numbers sank all the way down to 22% during the Korean war he was basically ran out of the presidency.
You are looking back with rose colored glasses. But history has shown that it is always better for a nation for the person to do what he thinks is right, than to do what is popular.

FDR and Truman were far from perfect and did not serve all of the citizens correctly. If that were the case, there would have been no protests over WWII (yes, there were protesters for us engaging in the war and thought we should talk to Hitler).
Even as far back as Washington, there were American citizens who dissented with his attacks against the British.
No president has ever served all of the citizens correctly except correctly in your narrowest vision of America.

I am sorry I do not agree with you.Only Eisenhower Jimmy carter and Bill Clinton did work for the betterment of America,I have heard that FDR's Main man was Mr.Onassis the shipping magnate and Drug Kingpin [Who later married Jackie Kennedy]while Truman was playing in the hands of Military Industrial Complex. The drug policies were set up in those years while working hand in glove with underworld figures during FDR time.

FDR and Truman didn't have to deal with the pc crowd of today. Could you imagine? They also surpressed the media too. "Loose lips sink big ships."

If FDR was so great, why was the 22nd Amendment of the constitution added? It was because of him and to prevent other power-hungry pigs like him from being president more than two terms. It's normally very difficult to add amendments to the Constitution. But it was ratified without much debate by congress or the states.

It isn't only the young who might disagree with you. Just because we all grow older doesn't mean we all begin to agree on who was a good President and who was not.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. I think FDR was one of our worst presidents, but that's my opinion.

Oh yeah, FDR was a real saint. He's the jerk that ruined America and turned it into the welfare state it is today. Sure, he had great success with the war but that was due to his incredible generals, not due to him (yes, he is the commander-in-chief but read your history -- it was the generals that ruled). FDR taught entire generations to become dependent on the federal government rather than themselves. I hardly think that should be idolized.
