I had my preemie boy at 27 w + 5 days of pregnancy. He was born on March 2nd. 2006 and is almost 10 months old, growing healty but he doesn't want to crawl...he just wants to be put on his feet. He's been going to therapy (physiotherapy) for several months to improve his neural-motor skills

I had twin boys that were born premature. They were much slower at doing things than my daughter. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Actually my daughter didn't crawl much, just went straight to pulling up and walking. Babies are all different. All of my kids are now healthy adults. Your son will be fine, but mothers alway worry about everything. That just shows you're a wonderful, caring mother.

Some kids don't crawl--it's nothing to worry about. Some go from laying around to walking. They skip crawling or scooting completely. I don't think it has anything to do with being a preemie either. Most preemies are caught up by the time they are a year old so he's pretty much just like any other baby at this point.

my son is premature and he didn't start crawling till he was almost one but he always just wanted to learn to stand up and go. There is nothing wrong with their motor skills. Preemies are special they do things in different ways. My son could stand with support from the chouch before he could sit and then he was starting to sit and crawl at the same time. I never took him to therapy because I don't see anything wrong with them. My son was born when I was 32 weeks pregnant.

My preemies did the "froggy" crawl late at about 11 months (adjusted). Then they only did that for a about 1 week, very short. As preemies, their trunk muscles are weaker than normal and crawling takes lots of trunk muscles. They never did a proper crawl on their hands and knees with knees together. They preferred to grab onto furniture to get up on their feet and cruise.

They are walking fine now at 18 months (adjusted). Their weekly therapy sessions helped alot. You should continue to take him to therapy for it is valuable. Ask the therapist lots of questions about his status, weaknesses, delays, and what you can do at home to help him. I encourage my preemies to play and have activites which challenges them to strengthen their trunk muscles.

Good luck to you. And don't worry... with a concerned and caring parent like you, your boy will do fine.
