police that are on your way to your house or place of emergency are people who are summoned close to your area. if the dispatcher annouces that there is a crime scene that needs to be tended to and the closet police (that responses) is in the next town over, well that explains why it takes so long

Unfortunately, city budgets only allow for a limited number of officers, who are responsible for covering specific areas of the city. They try to respond quickly, but are often busy- for example if they are investigating a warehouse break-in, sexual assault or home robbery, they can't just leave when another emergency call comes over the radio- they have to stay until their current situation is safely resolved. In some cases they need to stay with crime victims until paramedics arrive. Other officers might have to take that emergency call- and could be coming from many miles farther away.

It depends on alot of factors sush as how far away they are, what else is going on and such...Cops try and respond as quickly as they can to any emergency but remember there are only so many cops in a given town and if it's a weekend or Holiday they could be very busy...

Depends on many factors. If you are the person calling for help, seconds feel like minutes and minutes feel like hours. The response time in most major cities is 2 - 5 minutes. If you live in a rural area, the wait can be much longer.

With all respect to cops, I think that sometimes cops are afraid for themselves, so they don't become involved in emergencies if they can be involved with other milder stuff. They hope another cop answers the call that they are closer or something.

It depends on how far away they are.
Might be waiting for back-up.
If you live in a rural area, the closest officer might be many miles away. That is reason enough to support our right to own guns.

Because people refuse to pull over to the side of the road when a policeman pulls up behind them with his lights flashing.
